Chinese diagnostic tecniques with tongue and pulse.

Tongue examination provides some of the most important data for pattern identification. Pattern identification is the essential oriental medical diagnosis of the individual. Once we reach a clear pattern identification we have can determine a treatment principle. That treatment principle is applied it begins to help move a person back to health.

In Chinese Medicine the body of the tongue is of greatest significance in judging the strength of correct qi. It also provides an indication of the severity of the condition. The tongue coating is primarily an indicator of the severity of the disorder. The moistness of the tongue indicates the state of fluids in the body.

Each part of the tongue surface is thought to have a correspondence with an organ. The root of the tongue is thought to be related to the kidney. The center of the tongue is reflective of the spleen and stomach. The tip of the tongue reveals the condition of the heart and lungs. The sides of the tongue are indicative of the condition of the Liver and Gallbladder.

Other important aspects of the tongue examination would be any cracks, scalloped edges, quivering, dark veins, red speckled dots, etc. The tongue is a classical and invaluable diagnostic procedure in traditional Chinese medicine.

Pulse examination involves feeling the pulsation of the blood vessels by placing the fingertips on the surface of the body.

A classical ancient text essential  Questions comments: “The blood vessels are the dwelling place of Qi +Blood”. That is they are the pathways of qi and blood. By palpating the blood vessels in specific parts of the body it is possible to judge the state of the qi and blood, and to thereby assess whether the patient’s condition is improving or deteriorating, and determine the ultimate prospects for recovery.

The condition of each organ is reflected in the six pulse position on the wrist. There are three basic pressure levels superficial, mid level, and the deeper level. The length, size rate and rhythm of the pulse provide information about the location and nature of the disease. There are approximately 28 qualities of pulse such as deep, floating, rough, wiry, soggy, interrupted etc.

This examination along with the tongue examination are once again a classical and clinically effective way to determine the state of a person’s condition. With all of this information we are able to formulate an expedient and effective treatment principle to restore health.

How the body regulates Stress

Stress affects us all on a daily basis. Our body reacts to this negative stimulus and deals with it in three ways.
There are three main forms of adaption or regulation within the body.

  • Hyper – Inflammation or excess
  • Rigid – A locked or stagnant state
  • Hypo – A Deficient or depleted state

These actually occur with every organ and every system in the body. We need a way of measuring the regulation within each organ and each system as a way to understand exactly how that individual’s disease process was created.

The reason why we need to understand that is in order to be accurate and effective with the treatment to reach maximum health and improvement.

I hope you enjoy today’s video on how stress is regulated by the body.

Acupuncture Doctor explaining how Emotions and Thoughts affect our Wellness

After a few inquiries on my previous post on how worry and anxiety can cause digestive problems, I thought I would put this short video together to expound on the topic a little more.

As I stated in the prior post, Life has its experiences and we respond to everyday circumstances by forming thoughts and having emotions. I hope this video below provides a little more insight on the topic.

I welcome your comments and inquiries to discuss the topic further .

Digestive Troubles caused by Worry and Anxiety

There are very common dynamics that occur in our existence and effect the the body in specific ways. Worry, concern, anxiety, apprehension and rumination are somewhat closely related, and generally effect a persons existence in specific ways. The dictionary describes it as a disturbed mind. These are emotions about what might happen in the future but are created from the past. They are significant in there ability to effect a persons life in a limiting way.

First one needs to understand that the originating painful emotion experience are some times from the very beginning of are life. We can also have multiple experiences from the past that have remained in place for a very long time. When triggered buy things or people in our lifes they get reactivated in a way that takes over one’s sense of peace and well being. It can be awful, overwhelming, and effect every area of ones life, relationships, health, career, children, financial, and pleasure.

Chinese Medicine has understood and been able to effectively treat this dynamics for over 3,000 years. Acupuncture treatment can impact these dynamics in a positive manner.

These emotions are harmful primarily to the solar plexus region including the digestive organs.

Each organ has a frequency that it functions at, and that frequency is disturbed by the lower frequency of these above stated emotions. This frequency is in part regulated by the Nervous system.

The Sympathetic Nervous System becomes disturbed by the hyper excitability (excessive/repetitive) thoughts. One will then experience a lack in clarity about the true reality of the current situation. This disturbs ones ability to be stable and increases the Vegas nerve output as it as it churns with fret.

The Vegas nerve connects to a specific plexus in the gastrointestinal area. This plexus as it is being over stimulated by these emotions will begin to mis-regulate the balance in the Digestive system. As it is over stimulated it will over constrict on the upper GI organs like the liver, Small intestines, Pancreas, Esophagus, Gallbladder, etc. This begins to change the terrain of the Small intestine. The oxygen, acidity, friendly microbes, and absorption becomes impaired.

Over months and years this does develop into all kinds of symptoms. Ge rd, Indigestion, Reflux, he ital hernia, Bloating, Diarrhea, irritable bowel and many more are part of what happens from these chronic emotions.

I have found that it requires at least seven levels of treatment to effectively change these problems.

First : Find out what is triggering these chronic responses and change your reactions.

Second : Change the reactions by seeing the situation for what it really is not what you think it is, there is A DIFFERENCE.

Third : Receive new and more accurate knowledge about what is occurring. Put practices in place to handle and resolve what is needed.

Fourth : Receive Acupuncture treatment to help disengage the “fight or flight” response that blinds your awareness.

Fifth : Use natural remedies to help calm the nervous system and reduce inflammation along with balancing the digestive organs.

Sixth : When ready, begin treatment to heal the under lying programing that is out dated (like old software) but keeps running your life.
